The Pocono Prayer Breakfast (formally known as the Pocono Leadership Prayer Breakfast) will celebrate its 29th year on October 1, 2024, at Kalahari Resort & Convention Center.
For over a quarter of a century, the Pocono Prayer Breakfast has been a beacon of hope and community cohesion, drawing more than 700 community and business leaders annually. "For 28 years, the Pocono Prayer Breakfast has brought over 700 community and business leaders who join together to pray for our government, businesses, healthcare, education, faith communities, residents, and families," said Charlie Trapasso, Director of the Pocono Prayer Breakfast.
The Breakfast (always held on the first Tuesday of October) is a non-profit event that highlights what unites us as Americans, with a focus on God and Country. Past leaders of our Nation have turned to Almighty God for strength and guidance. In this spirit, the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives inaugurated the National Prayer Breakfast to seek the Lord's guidance and strength, reaffirm our faith, and renew our dedication to God and His purpose.
Through the inspiration of this gathering, those in attendance hear a message of hope from a featured speaker. Many high-profile speakers have shared their personal story and powerful, life-transforming testimony at the Pocono Prayer Breakfast throughout the years.
Ample signage and easy access parking is provided by Kalahari. Doors to the Kalahari Event/Conference Center open at 6:15 a.m. Breakfast buffet is available from 6:15-7:15 a.m. We begin the formal part of our program at 7:15 a.m and are diligent about ending the program by 8:30 a.m. Afterward, there will be a short social that runs through 9:00 a.m. The Stroudsburg High School band opens the program every year with a military tribute to honor our veterans and students from Faith Christian School delight the audience with song during the breakfast hour.
We are excited to continue this rich annual tradition as we unite over our shared faith in God, love for our Country, and the message of hope and salvation in Jesus Christ.
Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.
In Him,
Charlie Lynn Trapasso
Director, Pocono Prayer Breakfast
Some years ago a friend gave me a tape (CD) of a Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast held in Dallas,
Texas. I thought wouldn’t it be nice to have one in Monroe County, PA. Our Country seemed to
be drifting away from its Founders dream of “One Nation Under God”. The purpose would be
simple, have a breakfast for the purpose of praying for your community and country and have a
lay person share their life story of how they came to a personal relationship with God and how it changed their life.
I shared the idea with some friends and one in particular gave me encouragement and advice, go first class, start on time and end on time, don’t try to sell any books or tapes. The Speaker should be a well known man or woman who can share how a relationship with God changed their life. Monroe County is not the Bible Belt so I thought the goal should be 50 people for the first Annual Breakfast. I spoke with the owner of a well know venue, but he said I would have to
guarantee 100 for a 6 A.M. breakfast..
Monroe County has 4 Boroughs, each with a Mayor. So to keep it simple I chose Leadership
Prayer Breakfast.
Much to everyone’s surprise 240 people bought tickets. The room held 200 so the Owner
suggested next year find a larger venue. Camelback Ski Lodge held 480 and said they would
only do a breakfast if we guaranteed 480 people and that’s how many came to the 2nd Annual
breakfast. The 3rd year and following it grew to 600. The expenses far exceeded the revenue for
the cost of the breakfast ticket. We never asked for donations or passed a hat, but God moved in
people sensing the need and each year the money was always there to pay all the bills and end in the black.
Many people have shared how they began or renewed a relationship with Jesus through attending the breakfast and the Speaker’s message. Everyone from any background is welcome, Business People, Tradesmen, Doctors, Lawyers, School Board Members, Township Supervisors, Senators, Congressmen, even the Governor of PA often attended. We keep it simple, started and ended on time, gave each person a small Bible and always used a Layperson as Speaker. My goal was to direct the breakfast for 5 years and then turn it over to a younger person. But 5 turned into 25 years and Mrs. Trapasso has taken the leadership of this meaningful event. My wife, Paula, and I are so thankful the miracle will continue.
